Kratos, also known as Kureitosu (クレイトス), is the protagonist of the God of War series. The son of Zeus, he was once a Spartan general and later became a servant of Ares, the god of war. He eventually rebelled against Ares, defeated him using Pandora's Box, and took his place as the new God of War. Kratos is driven by a thirst for vengeance. In the SoulCalibur series, he appears as a guest character, retaining his iconic weapons, the Blades of Chaos. He is recognizable by his muscular build, large red tattoo on his left side, golden-amber eyes, and a black goatee. His pale skin is the result of a curse from an oracle after he killed his wife and child, their ashes now covering his skin. In SoulCalibur, Kratos is summoned through a ritual, realizes he is in a different time, and resolves to exploit the conflict between Soul Edge and Soul Calibur to return to his own era. His fighting style is brutal and direct, similar to his style in the God of War series, combining both close-range and long-range attacks. His signature moves include "Rage of the Gods" and "Chaos Rush."
