Takechiyo is the main protagonist of the fighting game *Samurai Shodown Sen*. His character is inspired by the historical concept of peasant-samurai from the Sengoku period, with Toyotomi Hideyoshi being the most famous example. Takechiyo is a warrior-in-training who was once saved by the wandering swordsman Haohmaru, under whose tutelage he learned swordsmanship. He idolizes Haohmaru and travels the land to improve his skills. After being shipwrecked, he was rescued by a girl named Suzu and two months later embarks on a journey to find her after she runs away from home. Takechiyo is a hot-blooded youth with confidence in his swordplay, eager to become as strong as Haohmaru. He often proclaims himself to be the "greatest swordsman under the heavens" and inscribes this phrase on the back of his yukata, a trait similar to the fictional swordsman Musashi Miyamoto. His fighting style focuses on speed, employing quick sword attacks alongside elbow strikes and flying kicks. In the game, Takechiyo is a bit faster but slightly weaker than most of the power-based characters.
