Skeeter

Original Titleクモ

Languages:

  • Chinese: 蜘蛛怪
  • English: Skeeter
  • Japanese: クモ
Skeeter, also known as a water strider, is a common enemy in the Super Mario series. They first appeared in Super Mario 64, typically gliding on the water's surface, drawing inspiration from real-life water striders. Skeeter's appearance varies across different games. For example, in Super Mario 64, they are cyan with yellow suction-cup feet and red antennae, while in New Super Mario Bros., they are large, red, and throw bombs. Their behavior also differs; some simply glide on water, while others actively attack Mario. They are usually defeated by jumping or fire attacks. Additionally, Kumo, a hopping spider enemy from Super Mario Land, whose Japanese name means "spider," is a different creature. About the same size as Mario, Kumo attacks in world 3-2 and 3-3 by jumping and can be defeated by stomping or using Superballs. Despite both being part of the Super Mario series, Skeeter and Kumo are distinctly different in appearance and behavior.
